I Love You, Concept Art Gallery, Pittsburgh, PA, Dec 9th, 2023 - March 16th, 2024
My solo exhibition “I Love You” questions the meaning and innocence of love through thirteen ceramic sculptures.
Cigarette After Sex (2023) / ceramics / 20 x 14 x 8 inches
Creep (2023) / ceramics, automotive paint / 8 x 10 x 13 inches
Fucking Hot Pot (2023) / ceramics / 12 x 13 x 11 Inches
I Love (Love Not) You (2023) / ceramics / 16 x 6 x 7 inches
I Wish You Died (2023) / ceramics, colored sand, automotive paint, spray paint / 13 x 13 x 13 inches
Narcissist (2023) / ceramics / 7 x 5 x 19 inches
The form of “Narcissist” came from referencing a cartoon character called Charmander in the Japanese TV series Pokémon. Charmander is a Pokémon that looks like a dinosaur with a small flame at the end of its tail. The light blue base underneath is made to create a reflection of the long yellow form on top. The head of the yellow piece plunges into its reflection, which entails the title derived from the Greek mythology of Narcissus falling in love with his reflections on a pool of water.
Stalker (2023) / ceramics, spray paint / 12 x 10 x 11 inches
“Stalker” was inspired by the Korean News, where I learned about a stalker recording the sound of his neighbor by putting his phone against her front door. Despite the insanity and unethicality of the stalker, I questioned the fundamental difference between his love and mine when I was in love with someone, which led me to inquire about the meaning of love and make this piece. The small rectangular box placed on the facade of “Stalker” represents the stalker’s phone against his neighbor’s door, while the black and blue rod on the right resembles a doorknob.
Love Is an Open Whore (2023) / ceramics / 12 x 16 x 9 inches
The name “Love Is an Open Whore” comes from the song “Love Is an Open Door” in Disney’s animated movie “Frozen”. The form takes reference from the snowman character named “Olaf.”
Cut Your Tongue (2023) / ceramics, red tubing, spray paint / 12 x 10 x 26 inches
